Product Description

Sliding gate can be configured with one or two leaf panels that move horizontally along a track or cantilever system, rather than swinging open through an arc. As a leading metal gate supplier, we build sliding gate as the space-saving alternative in our gate system range — it's the practical choice for sites with limited front-to-back clearance, sloped driveways, or uneven ground, since it doesn't need an open arc to operate the way a swing gate does.

Sliding gate can be operated manually or automatically; automated systems use electric motors controlled via remote control, and are generally more robust and better suited to frequent or heavy-duty use than swing gate automation. It allows both pedestrian and vehicle access and is commonly used in residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

The gate panel can be supplied in several infill styles — welded mesh, chain link mesh, 358 security mesh, steel tubular, or double wire mesh — each suited to a different balance of security, visibility, and appearance. See the comparison below to find the style that matches your application.

Features:

Security — Provides a robust barrier against unauthorized access; security level varies by panel style, with tighter mesh openings offering stronger anti-climb and anti-cut resistance.

Space-SavingHorizontal movement along the fence line means no swing clearance is needed in front of or behind the gate, making it well suited to sites with limited depth.

Terrain AdaptabilitySince the gate runs along a track or cantilever system rather than swinging through an arc, it handles sloped or uneven ground better than a swing gate.

Customization — Size, panel style, mesh opening, and color can all be configured to match the architectural style of the property.

Anti-Corrosion — Hot-dip galvanized and powder-coated surface treatment is designed to resist rust for many years under normal outdoor conditions.

Durability — Built from high-quality welded steel tube and wire for long-term strength.

When to Choose Sliding Over Swing

The deciding factor is usually site clearance and terrain. Swing gates (single or double) need an open, level area for the leaf to arc through; sliding gates need lateral space along the fence line instead, roughly equal to the gate's width. If your driveway slopes upward, the ground is uneven, or there simply isn't enough depth behind the gate for it to swing open, sliding gate is the more practical choice.

Sliding gate also tends to handle frequent vehicle traffic better once automated, since track-mounted motor systems are generally more robust for heavy-duty or high-frequency use than swing gate operators. The trade-off is installation complexity — sliding systems typically require a track or cantilever beam to be properly installed and leveled, and the track needs to stay clear of debris to avoid jamming, whereas swing gates rely on simpler hinge hardware with less ongoing maintenance.

Choosing the Right Gate Panel Style

The panel style you choose affects security level, visibility, and overall appearance.

358 security mesh has the tightest, smallest mesh opening of the available styles, making it the hardest to climb or get a foothold on — the preferred choice for high-security industrial or commercial sites.

Double wire mesh uses a twin-wire construction that resists cutting and tampering better than single-wire mesh, making it a strong choice where vandal resistance is a priority alongside reasonable visibility.

Welded mesh and chain link mesh offer a balance of cost, visibility, and moderate security, commonly used for general residential or commercial vehicle entrances.

Steel tubular panel is the most open, decorative option — offering the best visibility and a more traditional or architectural look, at the cost of lower anti-climb security compared to mesh styles.

FAQs

When should I choose sliding gate instead of swing gate?

Sliding gate is the better choice when your site has limited front-to-back clearance, a sloped driveway, or uneven ground — since it runs along a track instead of needing an open arc to swing through. Swing gate is often simpler and more economical when the site has enough level, open space.

Does sliding gate need a track or can it be cantilevered?

Both options are available. A track-mounted system uses a ground-level guide rail, while a cantilever system uses an overhead support beam and doesn't require a ground track — useful for sites where a ground-level track could interfere with drainage or vehicle clearance. Contact us with your site conditions to determine which is more suitable.

Can sliding gate be automated?

Yes. It can be fitted with a motor, track, and remote control for automatic operation. Automated sliding systems are generally more robust than automated swing gates, making them well suited to frequent or heavy-duty vehicle access.

What maintenance does a sliding gate need?

The track or cantilever system needs to stay clear of debris to avoid jamming. This is generally the main maintenance consideration, compared to a swing gate's simpler hinge-based hardware.

Which panel style should I choose for a high-security site?

358 security mesh offers the tightest mesh opening of our available styles, making it the most resistant to climbing or gripping — the typical choice for industrial or other high-security applications.

Can gate height, width, and panel style be mixed and matched?

Yes. Height, width, panel style, mesh opening, post type, and color can all be configured independently, and automation can be added or omitted based on your needs.

Do you provide installation guidance or drawings?

Yes. A downloadable drawing is available on this page, installation tools and instructions are included, and our design team can provide drawings based on your site dimensions and terrain.

Manual vs Automatic Operation

Sliding gate can be supplied for manual operation or fitted with a motor, track, and remote control for automatic operation. Automated sliding systems are generally more robust than automated swing gates, making them well suited to sites with frequent vehicle access, such as commercial or industrial entrances. The track or cantilever beam needs to be installed level and kept clear of debris, leaves, or snow to avoid jamming — this is the main ongoing maintenance consideration compared to a swing gate's simpler hinge hardware.
